‘Pelé’, the nickname of legendary Brazilian footballer Eson Arantes do Nascimento, who died on December 29, 2022, was entered as a word in the Michaelis dictionary of the Portuguese language on Wednesday. In Brazil, Pelé’s name has often been popularly used as a synonym for excellence. The Michaelis dictionary defines pelé (uncapitalized) as “exceptional, incomparable, unique”.
