It is not unique, because cats can sometimes let their owners down for a long time. But it is special what Peer from Oss has experienced: his Yoda managed to come home after … twelve years. “A cozier is back.”
About thirteen years ago, Peer thought it would be a good idea to buy a cat. He found a suitable pet at a shelter and named him Yoda. The two seemed to get along well until Yoda went off and didn’t show or hear anything.
Not exactly desperate
Peer did not immediately despair, because could his cat have a better time elsewhere? Moreover, Yoda was chipped and registered, so he would have to end up one day, Peer encouraged himself. Unfortunately for him, the cat thought otherwise, cats are quirky for a reason.
Years passed and Peer had to manage without his former cuddly toy, it seemed. Until on September 22, two months ago, he received a phone call from the Animal Ambulance Maasland. Peer: “I was shocked. Yoda had been gone for so long. I thought he was long dead. My life was no longer geared towards a pet.”
“But”, Peer wondered aloud, “if I didn’t want him back, he would go to the shelter. And I had just saved him from that once. So that was not an option for me. With the help of a cat friend neighbor, I quickly arranged some things together and the gentleman was welcome.” Yoda noticed: he immediately felt at home. When an animal ambulance employee let him out of the transport cage, he seemed to recognize Peer’s house. His owner: “Very strange. Yoda was instantly at ease.”
‘Yoda is getting more beautiful and fuller’
It was really Yoda, although he had lost weight and dry chunks were no longer spent on him. But maybe they had gotten so dry because he had been gone so long. Peer: “I only get canned wet food, but I’ve been feeding him slowly with small portions and now he’s slowly starting to get nice and full. His coat is also looking better.”
And what makes it even more endearing to Peer: “The better he is fed, the more affectionate he becomes. In short, a really cozy home.”
‘Have a good old age’
It is not clear whether Yoda ever goes out or is allowed. As far as Peer is concerned, the approximately fifteen-year-old cat no longer has to leave their house: “He can spend a nice old age here with us.” Still, Peer has some questions: is there anyone else missing a cat and where has Yoda gone all this time?
“But”, Peer assures, “he will stay with us, because he happens to be the most beautiful cat in Oss.” Through the Facebook page of the Animal Ambulance Maasland, he complimented the employees of this organization for their help, but he also owes a lot of thanks to the person who called in the Animal Ambulance.
