The fire was already surrounded by firefighters and meter-wide wet stop lines on Wednesday evening, partly thanks to the deployment of fire fighting helicopters. When it got too dark, the helicopters had to stop working. On Wednesday evening, Staatsbosbeheer kept the south side of the fire wet. However, around 10 p.m., employees of the organization had to withdraw from the forest, because the smoke development became too dangerous.
