The organizers of Pearl Village Festival & Weijdepop in Dalen are jumping for joy. An agreement has been reached with the neighborhood: the festival will continue on July 7, 8 and 9.
Some local residents say they were increasingly affected by the festival. They said it was out of control. She and the municipality of Coevorden therefore faced each other in court in Groningen in May. He decided that the municipality had not been careful in granting the permit. This made it uncertain whether the festival could continue.
Many conversations between the local residents, the municipality and the organizers followed, says Jory Bosch of Pearl Village Festival. According to him, there was discussion, but also listened carefully to each other. The ink under the agreement is not yet dry, but it may be reported: preparations can be made further.
An important concession that has been made is the promise that this festival can be held on the current site until 2026. After 2026, we will have to move to another site anyway. Also, no more than 5,000 visitors per day are allowed. “It will not be a black cross, which they were afraid of,” says Bosch.
Recycling measures are being taken so that less plastic is floating around the site. And the cleaning work does not happen overnight, but the next morning. There will be an adapted bicycle plan, so that the neighborhood is spared more. The festival is placed further back, further from the houses. Security ensures that visitors return home faster after the festival and do not linger.
The local residents withdraw their objection to the issued event permit. “As they said before, they have nothing against this festival. But something had to be done,” says Bosch.
