Pearl Jam have now confirmed that they are working on a new album. Guitarist Stone Gossard said the band has started sessions for a new album and has already recorded a few tracks.
“We recorded some songs. We are on our way. We make music,” he told Consequence Of Sound. Gossard also confirmed that guitarist/songwriter Andrew Watt, who has worked with Justin Bieber in the past and also worked on Eddie Vedder’s solo album Earthling, is on board as a producer.
“We’re excited,” Gossard said. “Andrew is a real character. Really, we wrote quickly. Spontaneously. Bring in a riff. Matt Cameron plays his ass off. We didn’t bring any gear down. We basically just did a couple of shots in Andrew’s basement in Beverly Hills. So far so good.”
Bandmate Eddie Vedder had already indicated in the past that they would like to work with Watt. “I want to stay in that state of mind where we’re making looser records and being able to create that feeling or that art more quickly… We’re constantly asking ourselves, ‘What’s a different process?’ How can we do something new? What’s the next step?” Gossard continued.
“I was just talking to Jeff Ament the other day, we were talking about trying different formations, how to generate song ideas, especially ones that move us, that move us in a cool direction or a direction where people are like, ‘Ah! ‘”
Before the album release, the band will go on a North American tour starting in May. The new album would be the successor to the eleventh studio album “Gigaton”, released in 2020.
