2024 will see ‘peach’ in the fashion industry.
Pantone has named ‘Peach Fuzz’ the color of the year for 2024. The velvety, delicate peach tone offers a fresh approach to new softness that underlines the current longing for togetherness or for a moment of silence and the associated feeling of security, the color institute announced on Thursday.
“In search of a hue that reflects our innate longing for closeness and connection, we chose a color that radiates warmth and modern elegance,” said Leatrice Eiseman Executive Director, Pantone. “A hue that exudes compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the young and the timeless.”
The warm and cozy hue, color coded ‘Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz’, is described by Pantone as a “gift to the senses” that creates a symbiotic relationship between the senses of taste, sight, touch and smell.
Peach Fuzz, a tone between pink and orange, is intended to remind people to stop and look out for one another in times of unrest. The color of the year is also intended to express the desire for connection and joy that comes with a moment of peace and solitude with loved ones.
Peach Fuzz: a color “tactile embrace”
“It had to be a color whose warm and welcoming embrace conveys a message of compassion and empathy,” said Pantone. “A color that is caring and whose cozy sensibility brings people together and evokes a sense of tactility. A color that reflects our feeling for simpler days, but at the same time reformulated to create a more modern feel. One whose gentle lightness and airy presence takes us into the future.”
The ‘warm and tactile embrace’ of the Color of the Year 2024 contrasts with Viva Magenta, the Pantone Color of the Year 2023, which represented strength and optimism. While the color appears to reflect the current times and the resulting basic human needs for togetherness amidst difficult moments, it also offers a calming quality in terms of its tactility. According to Pantone, the color encourages you to instinctively reach out and touch and is best displayed in quilted, velvet, quilted and furry textures that feel luxurious and soft.
Pantone isn’t the only color authority predicting a peachy shade for 2024. The trend research institute WGSN in collaboration and the color experts from Coloro are also involved ‘Apricot Crush’ chose a similar, albeit slightly stronger, tone as their color of the year for 2024.
