The Flemish Peace Institute calls for better supervision of the export of chemical and biological products that could possibly be used abroad for the development of chemical or biological weapons. A 2019 case involving illegal exports of chemicals to Syria has highlighted the need for such closer surveillance, but a comprehensive enforcement and sanctioning system remains to be seen and urgently needed to change, the Peace Institute believes.
