Peace collective Ypres and 8 May coalition lay flowers against Frontnacht and Yzerwake
Frontnacht may have been canceled, but the Yserwake will still continue on Sunday as a break from the Yserbedevaart. As a result, the 8 May coalition and Peace Collective Ypres wanted to hold a flower laying.
“Extreme right-wing organizations are calling again en masse for the Yserwake. As a child of resistance fighters, I understand very well what fascism means. The far right uses the same demagoguery as in the 1930s. We know the history and know where hatred and racism lead. With the 8 We want to warn against the danger of the extreme right,” said the initiator of the 8-Me coalition, Ellen De Soete.
Simon Gronowski was also present at the symbolic action. He was able to jump off a Nazi train in 1943. His mother and sister died in Auschwitz. He called for not to fall into the trap of fascism: “The far right, Nazism, racism and anti-Semitism, of which I fell victim, are a danger. They spread hatred and violence. It is a threat to all of us.”
