Paving in Flanders is increasing again: “More than ten football fields under concrete every day”

In 2023, the paved area of ​​the territory in Flanders will have increased from 15.3 to 15.7 percent. This meant that the paving increased by at least 10 hectares per day. This is evident from figures from the Environment Department. The increase is again in line with the trend until 2020. “Every day, more than ten football fields disappear under the concrete,” criticizes Flemish Member of Parliament Mieke Schauvliege (Green).
