At 6 a.m. on Sunday morning, a stone was thrown against the window of two 36-year-old women in North Amsterdam, after a rainbow flag had already been pulled from their facade. The couple filed a police report for the second time in a week on Sunday.
The night before, a rainbow flag, which had been flying on the facade of their home in Oostzanerwef since Pride, was pulled down with a stick and all. “The holder and flagpole were broken, but the flag itself was still there the next morning. We therefore decided to hang it out of the window,” says the couple, who wish to remain anonymous.
But early Sunday morning it hit again and part of a paving stone flew against the window of the room where the couple slept. “Fortunately, our house is a kind of fortress and we have triple glazing. Two layers of glass are broken, the third is still half in. Without that third layer, it could have ended very badly.”
After the first night, a number of neighbors also ordered rainbow flags, but have not yet hung them after the paving stone. “We understand if they have doubts, we are of course very shocked ourselves. Our three-year-old daughter slept through it. Fortunately, as sometimes happens, she was not in bed with us.”

The reports are with the police and one of the women was called by an agent of Roze in Blauw, a department that deals with LGBTIQ + cases. “That was a nice conversation, but of course the police can’t do much without a description,” said one of the women.
The two suspect that the violent incidents come from the same perpetrators. “When the flag was pulled down we heard multiple voices, so we think it’s more than one perpetrator.”
