Paul Stanley rows back after criticism of transgender post

Paul Stanley posted a post on his social media channels on April 30, criticizing parents who encourage their children to undergo gender reassignment surgery. The KISS singer thinks that having legal guardians would make the topic a “sad and dangerous fad.”

Criticism was not long in coming: Among other things, there were contraindications from fellow musicians such as Steve Albini and Kevin “Noodles” Wassermann. “I remember when punk rock came along and made you look old for the first time,” wrote Nirvana producer Albini on Twitter. The Offspring guitarist Wassermann, on the other hand, was disappointed with Stanley. “As a young kid, your band taught me that I could be anything I want. Guess it was just talk after all,” Noodles wrote.

On Thursday (May 4), the 71-year-old posted a new statement on his social media channels, writing that his original words were “not clear”. His thoughts, on the other hand, were clear, the post says. “I support primarily those who are struggling with their sexual identity and are exposed to constant hostility, and also those who ultimately decide to have sex reassignment surgery. The level of conviction it takes to take such a step is hard to imagine,” Stanley continued. He would, however, prefer to discuss the subject elsewhere. Two paragraphs are far too few to get his opinion across properly.

How does the web react to Paul Stanley’s thoughts?

Most comments were favorable to the “Starchild,” although some suggested Stanley was backtracking simply because of the negative headlines. There seems to be a consensus on the platforms that such a complex topic cannot (only) be discussed on social media. Some impressions of the reactions:
