Normally, Paul Stanley himself, with and without his band, appears in all sorts of lists. The best Kiss songs of all time, the fiercest hard rockers, the toughest live workers; stuff like that. Now the guitarist, who celebrated his 70th birthday last December, is turning the tables.

Through his Twitter account, Stanley publishes his official Top 11 list of the greatest lead singers of all time. A quaint giant cabinet of deserving older gentlemen, led by Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and Steve Marriott of the Small Faces. Overall a nod to the rock scene around the 1970s.

Female singers also appear in Stanley’s cosmos. In seventh place is the eternal icon Janis Joplin. Number Eleven is occupied by Ann Wilson from the American sister band Heart. A kind of specialist vote that was recently shared by other rock titans. Iron Maiden boss Bruce Dickinson named Wilson his favorite singer in a roundtable discussion on his Spoken Word tour. Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly brought them in for a tribute show honoring TON singer Peter Steele, who died in 2010.

Stanley’s focus on the harder rock genre seems obvious. However, David Ruffin of Motown legends The Tempations appears in fourth place. Which in turn fits with his last album project “Now and Then”, which celebrates his soft spot for black music from earlier eras under the project name Soul Station.

An American vote is number eight with Steve Perry from Journey, who can count themselves among the forefathers of stadium rock with their powerful pathos anthems (“Don’t Stop Believin’”). The same applies to Brad Delp from Boston.

Here’s Paul Stanley’s entire lead singer 911 advice:

01. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
02. Steve Marriott (Small Faces, Humble Pie)
03. Freddie Mercury (Queen)
04. David Ruffin (The Temptations)
05. Rod Stewart
06. Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free)
07. Janis Joplin
08. Steve Perry (Journey)
09. Brad Delp (Boston)
10. Brian Johnson (AC/DC)
10. Lou Gramm (Foreigner)
11. Ann Wilson (Heart)
