Paul Smith is withdrawing from the stationary business in Germany.
The British clothing retailer Paul Smith Limited is closing its stores in Germany. The brand entered the German market almost ten years ago with its first store in Hamburg, but now this and the remaining stores in Berlin and Munich will be closed at the end of January. Paul Smith confirmed the closure of the three stores at the request of FashionUnited, after the industry magazine FashionNetwork previously reported on it.
“The rental agreements for our stores in Germany were all negotiated before the Covid pandemic, when shopping habits were very different to today,” said the British brand. The decision to close stores was not easy, especially with regard to the employees, but the bottom line was that the brick-and-mortar stores were increasingly unprofitable, despite their prime location.
However, Paul Smith will not leave the German market completely. The brand continues to focus on the wholesale business and will continue to work with its current partners in the future.
