Paul saw his office go up in flames: ‘We just have to move on now’

The shoulders are down and through. This is how owner Paul Wijtman reacted on Tuesday morning after part of his company at De Scheper in Oirschot went up in flames. The facade builder’s office area was largely destroyed by the fire at night. The production part still seems intact. “Normally we make facades and we don’t burn them down,” says the owner of WVH Gevelprojecten.

The fire in the building broke out at around ten to half past two. The fire brigade quickly scaled up to a very large fire. The flames were shooting out of the roof. “I have woken up feeling better,” says owner Wijtman the next morning with an uncomfortable laugh.

He received a call at night with the message that his company was on fire and he immediately went to De Scheper. “I saw fire, a lot of fire,” says Wijtman. “And about a hundred firefighters.”

The fire started in the office area. Most of it has been lost. “The only thing that is still good is the facade. So that suits us well,” jokes the owner of the facade construction company.

“We’ll just keep going.”

As Wijtman stands in front of his burned down office, he looks positive. “Yes, I have to,” he explains. “I have felt better at times, but we now have to take care of our customers and ourselves so that we can get back to work. We will continue as usual.”

The production part of the company does not appear to have been affected by the fire. “We also have other production locations, so I think that’s fine. If we have computers, we can get back to work within two days. We just have to ensure that production continues.”

The fire brigade worked with all its might to fight the fire on Monday night:
