Paul Rüpp (64) has been elected by the city council as the new mayor of the municipality of Maashorst. He had been acting mayor in that municipality since January, where he has lived since his youth, and gave the other candidates no chance. Eleven people had applied, ten of whom were men.
Ten of these were previously active in politics, including as mayor or alderman, the municipality says.
The Minister of the Interior still has to approve the appointment, but this is normally a formality. Rüpp is expected to be sworn in by the King’s Commissioner in the council meeting on 27 September.
Rupp was previously an alderman in Uden (1991-1998) and has been a member of the provincial executive of Noord-Brabant since 2003 with the spatial development portfolio. In 2009 he was appointed chairman of the Executive Board of Avans University of Applied Sciences.
The municipality of Maashorst was created on 1 January through a merger of the former municipalities of Landerd and Uden.
