Paul Pogba banned after doping test

French professional footballer Paul Pogba has been temporarily banned in Italy because of a positive doping test.

The Italian anti-doping agency announced that the 30-year-old midfielder had an elevated testosterone level, according to the Ansa news agency.

The professional from Juventus Turin was therefore temporarily suspended. Depending on the results of the B sample and the course of the proceedings, he could face a ban of up to four years. Juve also confirmed the ban. The club reserves the right to evaluate the next steps in the process, the statement said.

The sample was taken after the Serie A match between Juve and Udinese Calcio on August 20th. Pogba did not play in the game, but was on the bench for the Italian record champions. The 81-time French international has been playing for the Serie A club again since 2022, for whom he played from 2012 to 2016. Pogba then spent six years under contract with English record champions Manchester United. For Pogba, who has been injured again and again recently, the ban is the next setback.
