longing for titles
Were Paul Pogba’s years at Manchester United wasted years? According to the French midfielder’s interview with the newspaper “Le Figaro‘ you can almost get that impression. The national player, who is currently with the “Équipe Tricolore”, speaks of missed titles that now need to be caught up – no matter which club.
At Man United, who brought their homegrown Pogba back to England from Juventus Turin in 2016 for a record fee of 105 million euros, the player is only tied until the summer. Especially in comparison to his important post in the national team, Pogba openly asks whether the system in the “Red Devils” is still right for him. Speaking of national team manager Didier Deschamps, Pogba said: “He gave me a role that I know, but do I really have a role at Manchester United? I ask the question and have no answer.”

With the French selection, he has “a lot more playing time” because “the system is different than at a club,” said Pogba. “Actually, it’s very simple: I play for Les Bleus and in my position at that. I know my role, I feel the trust of the coach, the players.” According to the 2018 world champion, it was “normal to feel this difference at Manchester because it is difficult to remain constant when you have to change position, game system or partners frequently.”
change club? Pogba wants to ‘catch up on years when I didn’t win trophies’
This inevitably confirms the assumption that Pogba, who struggled with depression after his return to Manchester, is aiming for a change of club, if only because he has not won the title at United. He wants to use the “breath of fresh air” in the national team to get back in top form for his club. Pogba wants to “continue to win, to progress to catch up on the years in which I didn’t win any trophies.” At Man United, however, the Frenchman certainly celebrated titles – winning the Europa League and the League Cup in 2017.
But Pogba emphasized: “You have to be honest, that really doesn’t satisfy me at all over the last five seasons. We won’t win anything this year either. Whether it’s with Manchester or another club, I want to win trophies. ”Pogba was always rumored to be about Real Madrid, last summer also about Liverpool and most recently about a Juventus return or a move to Paris Saint-Germain. A first professional stop in France? “Why not,” Pogba said, “but that’s not something I’m particularly interested in.”
