During election times, politicians always turn into semi-TV stars: they appear in one TV program after another. They just skip Expedition Robinson, but it doesn’t make much difference. D66 leader Rob Jetten was Paul de Leeuw’s sidekick last weekend in the final episode of his failed studio show Hotel Hollandia.

Floating Liesbeth

The well-known TV medium Liesbeth van Dijk was a guest because she is – with a wink – a ‘floating’ voter. “Yes, hello Rob. Years ago I said something about you in some magazine, because then there are the magazines and you have to make those annual predictions. And my compliments that you have grown so much.”

Rob: “Thanks.”

Liesbeth: “I sincerely mean that. Unfortunately, I think you are too early this year, maybe in four years you will get much further, because you really see yourself growing. I am a D66 fan, but I’m afraid that… Because I get asked a lot: ‘Who will it be? Who’s it going to be?’”

Who will it be?

Paul then: “Yes, that’s why you’re here, isn’t it?”

Liesbeth: “Yes, that’s why I’m here.”

Rob: “To predict. Yeah, haha, exactly.”

Liesbeth: “Do you know what’s crazy about it? It is not yet known who it will be. Because I expect some kind of riot. I expect something else.”

Rob: “This campaign is still a bit boring.”

‘Wilders, Wilders’

Liesbeth: “It’s a bit boring. I’m afraid that Wilders – that’s what I’m afraid of – will be successful, because I hear everyone around me: ‘Yes, Wilders, Wilders, Wilders.’ Ehhh…”

Rob jokes: “Are those voices in your head?”

Liesbeth laughing: “No, real voices.”

Rob: “Sorry!”

White pointed hats

Then Paul makes a striking joke while making pointed hat gestures. “Yes, no, that’s very good! Those are the voices in your head! Those are the voices in your head! With those white hoods on! With those white hoods on!”

Paul is of course referring to the Ku Klux Klan, the extreme right-wing and racist organization from America known for burning crosses and people in white suits with pointed hats.

Paul’s joke makes Rob laugh. “Hahahahaha.”
