Easily earned: Patty Brard was offered a nice salary last night as a table lady in Khalid & Sophie, but decided not to say anything at all. “Just hot air.”
These are the icing on the cake for celebrities: lucrative TV jobs for which you only have to show up for an hour. The wages are generous, up to 1,500 euros. Khalid & Sophie also have such a well-paid job: sitting by Khalid Kasem or Sophie Hilbrand’s side for an hour. So well paid that Heleen van Royen even promised exclusivity.
Silent Patty
Patty Brard is also a regular guest and was there again last night. A really nice snack, but what is she actually paid for? The TV diva decided to remain silent for almost the entire broadcast. Only at the beginning did she make a statement that she didn’t want to sell hot air there.
Host Khalid Kasem: “Yes, good evening, welcome everyone, welcome to my guests. Yes, Patty, I’ll start with you. Normally we start a show with something lighthearted.”
Diana Ross
Not this time, says Patty. “Yes, it didn’t feel good. I’ve been thinking all day: what kind of lighthearted news should I take with me? I still thought: Diana Ross is coming.”
Diana Ross is giving a performance in Amsterdam tonight and Patty has chosen to skip the Golden Televizier-Ring Gala for that. But she doesn’t want to talk about that. “I thought about all kinds of things, but one thing I can’t get out of my mind is just the images from the war zone.”
Hot air
Patty doesn’t think it’s appropriate to talk about these kinds of peripheral issues at the moment, she says. And that is striking, because she does nothing different in Shownieuws evening after evening. “It all feels like hot air that I’m bringing here, so I thought: I’m just not going to bring anything with me, I’m going to go straight to the essence of the story with you.”
Khalid had guests sitting down to talk about the war between Israel and Hamas. Patty: “I think the three of you can tell us a lot more about that, because what I have to add is hot air and that’s the only air they all want. That’s all they want.”
Silence for hours
Khalid agrees. “I think a lot of people feel that, so let’s get straight to the situation.”
And so Patty was silent for almost an hour:
