Patty Brard calls for a national ban on toasters: ‘Dangerous’

Patty Brard calls for a nationwide ban on the sale of toasters. While preparing her breakfast, she had a kind of eureka moment. “This is simply dangerous.”

A toaster is a kitchen appliance used to toast and crisp bread by using heat. Many people have one for its convenience and to save time, but it is also appreciated for its consistency: the roasting is very even and can also be set quite precisely.

Electric shock

Yet Patty Brard now wants to take this pleasure away from many people. She wants to ban the sale of toasters, because you can also get an electric shock if you poke them with a knife. “I’m making breakfast and I was actually wondering the following,” she says in her video in her Instagram account.stories.

She continues: “I’m going to say it out loud for once: which of you has never done this in a toaster, when a sandwich gets stuck (poert with knife in grid, ed.)? I recently heard a story and I still want to share it with you. In fact, toasters should simply be banned.”

Severe burns

Then Patty shares something she found on the internet: “Every time you put a loaf of bread in the grid, you run the risk of electric shock. This can be serious, especially if you don’t expect it. When electric shock occurs while using a toaster, it can cause severe burns.”

While this could theoretically happen, toasters have been a staple of kitchens around the world for decades. Particularly in the European Union, only models with the strictest safety standards are sold. Many toasters are also equipped with a button to push the bread up.

Inattention

If you don’t poke around in your toaster with metal objects like some kind of weirdo, then of course there’s nothing to worry about. If we follow Patty’s reasoning, we can also ban the deep fryer, because of the risk of oil splashes. Or blenders, in case someone wants to put something in it while spinning and a little goes out.

All in all, it’s fine if Patty wants to prepare her food like a kind of primitive Wilma Flintstone from now on, but the rest of the Netherlands is of course not waiting for such a toaster revolution. This motion was rejected…
