The Finnish forward said on Sunday of last week that he applied for a treatment program because he wanted to put his mental health and well-being first.
– Ice hockey has been my passion and my life, but I have realized that I have to use this time to focus on myself in order to perform in the best possible way, Laine announced on Instagram.
Laine’s girlfriend Leigh commented on Instagram about the puck star’s decision to apply for the treatment program of the NHL players’ association.
– Mental health is health. I am more than proud of my husband, Leigh wrote with a heart emoji.
Also the head coach of Columbus Pascal Vincent commented Laine’s situation to The Athletic.
– We care a lot about Patrik. We will miss him. “He’s a big part of our team and we’re going to do everything we can to help him,” Vincent said.
– That treatment program exists because it is valued. That’s a great thing for players. These guys are hockey players, they do it for a living, but first and foremost they are people. We will miss him on the ice, but taking care of people is the most important thing, Vincent continued.
25-year-old Laine’s time in Columbus has been difficult. In December, Laine’s collarbone was broken. He has not returned to the rink since the injury.
