“I sometimes call myself a ‘hope giver’. Perhaps that is the best summary of what I see as my job and role in this society. I grew up in a Christian environment, on the Veluwe. After high school I wanted to study medicine, but I was chosen by lottery. Then I thought: I want to examine my own faith, I’m going to study theology. I did that, in Groningen.”
