Passer-by sees branches on the road, steps on the brake and discovers a crashed car in the outskirts of Twello | Deventer

A motorist was injured last night when his car ended up in a slight bend next to the road near Twello. An accidental passer-by found him. The injured man may have been trapped in his car for some time.

Rescuers from the police, fire brigade, ambulance and the trauma helicopter rushed to the Oude Wezeveldseweg near Twello.

The black pickup was parked next to the road, on a slight bend. Officers said last night that the car may have drifted off course due to the slippery road surface. Due to the rain last night, the road surface was very slippery. This often happens after a long period of drought. Dirt on the road has not yet been washed away.

The seriously injured man was trapped in his car. It took half an hour for rescuers to get him out of the wreckage. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. A specialist doctor from the trauma helicopter accompanied the ambulance to the hospital to provide assistance en route.

When the emergency services arrived at the car and the injured person, the engine block of the car was already cold. This fuels the police’s suspicion that the accident took place earlier in the night. The casual passer-by called the emergency number around four o’clock, it is not known how much time there is between the accident and the report.

Branches on the road

The passer-by initially saw branches on the road, as a result of the accident. He slammed on the brakes, turned back, and saw the crashed car among the trees.

The Oude Wezeveldseweg was closed for some time so that the emergency services could do their work. The road is located in the outskirts of Twello, a village between Apeldoorn and Deventer.
