Passed-over Hassani sees Playing as a goal: “Hopefully that dream will come true”

The Orange Lionesses of national coach Andries Jonker will compete with Spain on Friday evening for an Olympic ticket. A few hours earlier, Telstar player Samya Hassani looks anxiously at Tunisia – Morocco. “Unfortunately, I am not in the selection,” says Hassani, who hopes that her compatriots can keep the Olympic dream alive.

The Amsterdam native played minutes in the lost final of the African Cup two years ago. Now the Lionesses of the Atlas facing an important diptych against Tunisia will happen without Hassani. “Unfortunately, I am not in the selection this time. I have to perform at Telstar and work hard to win a place,” says the former VV Alkmaar player.

“Eight years ago I wouldn’t have dared to dream of the Olympic Games”

If Hassani’s compatriots manage to eliminate the Tunisians, the winner between Zambia and Ghana will be the last hurdle to overcome on the way to the Games. “If I am ultimately selected for the Olympic Games, I will be very happy. It shows that hard work is rewarded. Eight years ago I would not have dared to dream of the Olympic Games. Hopefully that dream will now come true.”

Transfer in the summer

To claim a place in the national selection, Hassani must show her best game at Telstar. “Personally, things are going well. I continue to develop myself and fortunately I am injury-free. With Telstar we don’t want to finish last this season and move up in the rankings.”

Who knows, in addition to a ticket to Paris, there may also be a transfer this summer for the player who was already in the interest of several clubs last year. “I hope to make a transfer this summer, but if that doesn’t happen, I’m also in the right place at Telstar. We’ll see,” concludes a beaming Hassani.
