The incomprehension radiates from Dani de Wit. The AZ player has been relegated from first choice in midfield to third choice behind Sven Mijnans and Djordje Mihailovic. As a result, he has to take a seat on the bench. “I find it strange,” says De Wit after the 1-1 draw against FC Utrecht.
Coach Pascal Jansen’s argument is that he wants more ‘creativity’ in midfield. That is less locked into De Wit’s game, so the choice falls to other players. “I find it a bit easy to throw it at that,” says an outspoken De Wit.
De Wit has now been playing for the Alkmaarders for more than four years and has always been on the scoresheet. Despite the fact that the team was running less smoothly for a while, De Wit finds it incomprehensible that the choice falls on others. “I am not the most creative player. I think I have other qualities. I think I have been important to the club often enough in that regard.”

De Wit is also in possession of an expiring contract. It is still unclear whether this will be extended, but with this situation that chance has become considerably smaller. “I have normally always played, but the fact that I am now no longer even second, but third choice, I think is quite strange. I can only do one thing and that is accelerate.”
