CYCLING – Pascal Eenkhoorn has won the Dutch title on top of the VAM mountain. The Jumbo-Visma rider defeated Daan Hoole (Trek-Segafredo) in the uphill sprint.
Eenkhoorn was clearly too strong for Hoole in the final meters. Shortly behind the two, Taco van der Hoorn was third. “Great, a bit unexpected”, the winner said immediately after the game at the NOS. The rider from Genemuiden rode for De Peddelaars from Hoogeveen in the past and knows the area well. “Nice to finish it. We are looked at a lot, now we can play out our surplus and we succeeded again this year,” he refers to the strength of his Jumbo-Visma team.
The two front runners drove away from a large leading group with more than twenty kilometers to go. Hoole drove away and Eenkhoorn was the only one to participate in the breakaway. A chasing group of five was unable to locate the duo. That group fell apart in the last mile.
Bart Lemmen crossed the finish line in fourth place, ahead of Sam Oomen and Oscar Riesebeek. Mike Teunissen was the last of the chasing group to enter.
Assenaar Elmar Reinders was not involved. He crossed the finish line in number 32 on the Col du Vam.
