The cabinet may have to look for 6.5 million euros to enable the infrastructure for a new business park at Groningen Airport Eelde. A motion by the VVD, CDA and PVV calls on Minister Mark Harbers to allocate this amount.
Koerhuis previously argued for growth at Groningen Airport Eelde, which insisted on more holiday flights. Minister Harbers himself did not want to actively contribute to this. Koerhuis is now making a new attempt with the support of CDA MP Harry van der Molen and PVV MP Dion Graus.
When the motion of the VVD, CDA and PVV achieves a majority in parliament later this week, the cabinet will have to look for extra money for the northern airport. Groningen Airport Eelde has plans to develop a new business park within the gates of the airport, the so-called Bravo business park. Companies that will be involved in ‘aviation-related activities’ will have to establish themselves in this area.
The Hague millions are mainly intended to improve the infrastructure towards the airport. Groningen Airport Eelde sees that the Burgemeester Legroweg as an access road to the airport is already quite busy. The airport is working with an architect to see how the airport can be better opened up and where this road can possibly be located. The management of the airport is also discussing this with local residents, as financial manager Gerrit Baarda previously stated at RTV Drenthe.
The cabinet will also enter into discussions with the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe about the train connection Veendam – Stadskanaal. Groningen MP Stieneke van der Graaf calls on Secretary of State Vivianne Heijnen to come to a solution with the region to bridge the financial gap.
The province of Groningen previously put 63 million euros on the table and the government added an additional 5 million euros. Earlier this year it turned out that the train connection Veendam – Stadskanaal was in jeopardy, because the construction costs had risen to more than 115 million euros. The region hopes that the government will put 63 million euros on the table to make this first part of the Lower Saxony line possible.
