The first vice president of the body, Alba Vergés, has assumed the acting presidency and, as of September, her will is to “try to comply with the agreements” of the legislature reached in 2021
The first vice-president of the Parliament, Alba Vergés, now acting as president after the suspension of Laura Borràs, has summoned JxCat this Thursday to suggest a formula to resume the functions of the presidency of the Catalan chambersomething that Junts are currently reluctant to do.
Speaking to Catalunya Ràdio, Vergés explained that for now has assumed herselfas First Vice President, those functions “with full responsibility”but has stressed that “as of September” his will is “try to fulfill the agreements of legislature reached in 2021, which contemplate that JxCat corresponds to the presidency of the Parliament of Catalonia.
“We summon them to say a formula to make it possible”, said the ERC leader, who has shown herself ready “to do anything” to “facilitate” compliance with those agreements.
Verges has “regretted that the second institution in the country is in this situation” interim, in which Borràs retains the position of president -so it is not possible to appoint a substitute- although she cannot exercise it as she is suspended, after the Parliamentary Committee applied article 25.4 of the regulation, which provides for suspending a deputy if they open an oral trial for corruption.
Asked if the delegated vote of the JxCat deputy Lluís Puig, who fled to Belgium, will continue to be counted, he recalled that the ERC’s commitment is to “reform the regulations” of the Parliament in order to guarantee that vote “not for a plenary session, but forever” .
