Parkstad Limburg Theaters director stops after 27 years | 1Limburg

General director Bas Schoonderwoerd is leaving Parkstad Limburg Theaters after 27 years.

The organization announced this on Thursday morning.

In consultation
In December, Schoonderwoerd will definitively resign from his duties as general manager and director. In recent years he has led, among others, Theater Heerlen and Theater Kerkrade. According to the organization, his decision was taken in close consultation with the Supervisory Board.

‘Nice group of employees’
‘Grateful for the space that the municipalities of Heerlen and Kerkrade gave Parkstad Limburg Theaters to give more substance to this beautiful and important goal of connection. An always sharp, critical and above all stimulating Supervisory Board, a fine group of top employees and volunteers make us proud,’ Schoonderwoerd said on Facebook, among other things.

He continues: ‘I will certainly not leave, but I do like to make room for others, if desired also remain available for the culture – which belongs to all of us – but after forty years now it is a little less.’

‘National example’
Supervisory Board chairman Stijn Huijts is full of praise for the departing director: ‘Bas Schoonderwoerd has made Parkstad Limburg Theaters into a national exemplary theater organization in which theater makers and the audience always come first.’

There is no successor for Schoonderwoerd yet. According to the Supervisory Board, a follow-up procedure will start shortly.
