Paris Saint Germain | Fronts brutally hardened: fateful week in Mbappé poker

All eyes on PSG: Superstar Kylian Mbappé returns to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday. Groundbreaking talks are scheduled there with club boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The exit? Totally open. According to the French media, the fronts between the club and the player are still brutally hardened.

Football France is more excited than ever about developments at Paris Saint-Germain these days. Kylian Mbappé returns from his vacation there on Monday. First, some medical examinations are on the program. The groundbreaking conversation with club boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi should take place on Tuesday. The future of the superstar at the top French club depends on this.

How the conversation will go can only be speculated. According to the French media, it could get ugly because: Mbappé remains adamant about his point of view. And this is: He will not extend his contract, which expires in 2024. According to “RMC Sport”, the superstar’s environment does not indicate that he has changed his mind.

PSG are paying Mbappé a small fortune

According to the obvious suspicion, Mbappé is primarily concerned with the money. If he stays with PSG for one more season, he collects a loyalty bonus of 80 million euros. The first 40 million of these are contractually due on July 31st. However, the club does not want to play along for understandable reasons. Not even PSG can take the risk of losing one of the most valuable players in the world on a free transfer in 2024, but having to pay him a small fortune in return.

For this reason, Al-Khelaifi’s position is also unchanged. He says: If Mbappé does not extend his contract, he will be sold this summer. But again, that’s easier said than done.

PSG want at least €200m for Mbappé

Al-Khelaifi originally gave his superstar an ultimatum until July 16th. Until then, the 24-year-old should inform the club whether he might want to extend his contract after all. Mbappé let this deadline pass. According to the French media, this was not particularly well received by the executive floor.

How the fuss about one of the best footballers in the world will continue is difficult to predict, because even if PSG put their superstar in the window, that does not mean that there is a club that will pay the transfer fee called for. The Parisians are said to be demanding at least 200 million euros for the French international. A sum that has only ever been paid for a footballer – by PSG for Neymar.

Real Madrid is already considered by many to be the next stop in Mbappé’s career. But the road from the sheiks to the royals is still a long one. Even a clarifying conversation between the striker and Al-Khelaifi would be no more than a first step.
