The Museum Musée des Arts Décoratifs has announced a series of exhibitions for 2023 and 2024, including a retrospective of Iris van Herpen.
From November 29, 2023 to April 28, 2024, the Paris museum will pay tribute to the Dutch designer with an immersive exhibition centered around eight themes that characterize van Herpen’s work.
In a statement, the organization added that the exhibition questions “the body’s place in space, its relationship to clothing and its environment, and its future in a rapidly changing world.”
A selection of contemporary artworks, installations, videos, photographs and natural history works will be on display alongside 100 of the designer’s dresses, with a replica of her Amsterdam studio and a room dedicated to her fashion shows rounding out the exhibition.
In the run-up to the retrospective, the museum has announced two more exhibitions, the first of which will take place between April 5 and September 17, 2023.
Cheveux & Poils explores how hairstyles and grooming have contributed to appearance over the centuries, and takes a detailed look at notable eras of hairstyles and their cultural influence.
In addition to exploring hair-related professions, the museum will also feature contemporary creations, including works by Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen and Martin Margiela.
The “Mode et sport” exhibition, running from September 20th, 2023 to April 7th, 2024 and sponsored by Lacoste, will explore the links between fashion and sport through a selection of clothing, accessories and memorabilia.
The exhibition will trace the history of sportswear and highlight interwar designers such as Gabrielle Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin and Elsa Schiaparelli.
