Because she didn’t share a post on her late father’s birthday, internet trolls are causing stress.
On Tuesday (August 29), the King of Pop Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, would have been 65 years old. Fans used the day to celebrate the artist’s life and work. However, some criticized daughter Paris Jackson for not making a public post about the occasion on social media. On Instagram, however, the singer and actress clearly commented on the criticism and hate comments she received on the subject.
“Today is my father’s birthday and when he was alive he hated it when people talked about his birthday, congratulated him, celebrated it. […] He actually didn’t even want us to know when his birthday is because he didn’t want us to throw him a party,” the 25-year-old begins her explanation in her video. “But social media seems to be the way people express their love and affection today and if you don’t wish someone well on social media, I guess it means you don’t love them or care about them,” she says them further out.
Paris Jackson continues, “There are times when I don’t post anything on my dad’s birthday and people lose their fucking mind — they tell me to kill myself and measure my love for my own dad by what I do on Instagram post”.
In fact, the singer was on stage as the opening act for Incubus on Tuesday night. In a video clip, she shows how she informed the audience about her father’s birthday and paid him a public tribute. “He put blood, sweat and tears and love and dedication into the things he did for 50 years so that I could stand here in front of you guys and scream into a mic,” she told the crowd. “I owe him everything.”
At the end of the video, Jackson shared other ways to honor her father on his birthday that she felt he would have appreciated more: “My suggestion would be that there are always ways to raise awareness about climate change, to do things for the environment, Animal Welfare Activism. These were things he loved and was interested in. So if you want to pay homage and honor him on his birthday, that would be my suggestion.”
