US reality star and model Paris Hilton (42) says she had an abortion in her early twenties.
In an interview with the magazine “Glamour”, the heiress described why she decided to have an abortion: “I was a child and not ready for it.” Hilton, in her own words, did not want to talk about the abortion for a long time because the decision was in her caused a lot of shame.
But now she wants to use her voice for political engagement: “It’s just all about politics, but it’s about a woman’s body… Why should there be a law based on that? It’s your body, your choice – I really believe in that.”
Abortion rights are a hot topic in the US. For decades, abortions were allowed at least until the fetus was viable, about 24 weeks. However, the Supreme Court overturned this decision last year, paving the way for stricter abortion laws – even outright bans.
Paris Hilton and her husband Carter Reum recently welcomed a son. The two have named him Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum. In the meantime, fans can take a look at their baby together: the model shared a family photo on Instagram. Hilton and Reum married in November 2021 and gave birth to their son via surrogacy.
Surrogacy, in which another woman carries a couple’s biological child to term, is illegal in Germany.
