Even Colombian President Gustavo Petro got involved in the kidnapping. Petro reported on Saturday evening that Luis Díaz’s father, Luis Manuel Díaz, is still in the hands of the kidnappers. “Luis Díaz’s mother has been rescued, we are still looking for the father,” Petro reported via his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
The kidnapping took place in the La Guajira department in Colombia. The parents were overpowered at a gas station.
Díaz moved from Colombia to FC Porto in 2019. Liverpool acquired him for 42 million euros in 2022. He has not yet responded to the kidnapping. It is also unclear whether he will play for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest later today (kick-off 3 p.m.).
