During an operation, a paramedic was physically attacked and injured by a drunk.

As the police announced on Thursday, emergency services from the fire brigade and police were called to a “helpless” man in Berlin-Marzahn on Wednesday. However, the 36-year-old stated that he did not want any help.

When the paramedics turned away, the accused is said to have punched one of the two. However, his colleague caught the man from behind in good time. The accused is said to have kicked the 39-year-old back in the right leg.

Police officers brought the attacker to the ground and handcuffed him. As a result, the 36-year-old was drunk. He was taken to a hospital where he was introduced to a psychiatrist. The injured paramedic was also taken to hospital with a broken ankle.

“The fact that our colleague was physically attacked while trying to mediate and was injured so badly that he had to have an operation is shocking,” said state fire director Karsten Homrighausen from the Berlin fire brigade on Thursday.

The fire brigade also reported on Twitter with the words: “We are dismayed”. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
