Paralypics: Unfortunate debut for Glötzner

Skier Christoph Glötzner made an unfortunate Paralympic debut at the end of the Beijing Games.

After the 18-year-old missed the giant slalom on Thursday due to a fall while warming up, he was disqualified in the first run of the slalom. Glötzner, who started with a bruised shinbone and a torn muscle bundle in his upper arm, passed the last goal on the wrong side after a strong performance up to that point.

“That’s never happened to me in my life. I really just have to laugh right now, I made such a stupid mistake at the Paralympics of all places,” said Glötzner. After his injuries, he was “glad that I was able to start. The games are definitely unforgettable.” Without his faux pas he would have been 18th in the interim standings, it would have been third among the monopods.

His teammate Leander Kress dropped out in the second race. The German alpine team won a total of six medals in Yanqing. Anna-Lena Forster won two gold and two silver medals in the sitting class, while Andrea Rothfuss and Anna-Maria Rieder each secured one bronze in the standing class.
