Para Snowboard: Smiths in Cross Quarterfinals

Snowboarder Christian Schmiedt has reached the quarterfinals of the Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing Cross– Contest drafted. While Matthias Keller and Manuel Ness dropped out in the LL2 class as 19th and 22nd, Schmiedt took eleventh place in the qualification for the LL1 starting class, but missed out on a good starting position.

“I’m relatively satisfied”said the 33-year-old from Backnang, who, like Keller and Ness, is taking part in the Paralympics for the first time: “Actually, I wanted to position myself better so as not to have too strong opponents in the heats.” World Champion Tyler Turner set the fastest time of 1:04.24 minutes, Schmiedt was almost seven seconds behind the Canadian. The medal decisions will be made on Monday (from 4.30 a.m. CET).
