Snowboarder Christian Schmiedt was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the cross-country competition at the Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing.
The 33-year-old finished third in his run, just behind Pyeongchang winner Mike Schultz (USA) and Daichi Oguri from Japan. Only the two best athletes moved into the preliminary round of the LL1 start class.
“On the one hand, I’m really annoyed because I didn’t reach my goal,” said Schmiedt, who had wanted to reach the semi-finals after eleventh place in qualifying: “But on the other hand, I’m also happy. I’m on such a big stage never driven. I didn’t present myself that badly.”
Schmiedt’s teammates Matthias Keller and Manuel Ness missed out on the quarter-finals in the LL2 class on Sunday.
