Paper Sport Football magazine is disappearing: it will be merged into weekly magazine Knack
“The stories from the sport that require more background will move to the sports section of Knack and Le Vif, respectively, which will have a more extensive sports section. The successful Competition Special and 2 cycling specials – Spring Classics and Tour de France – will be retained with loose sales in the newsagent”, says Roularta.
Tough competition
Niels Famaey, Publisher: “In a hyper-competitive Umfelt with freely available and extensive sports content on all possible channels, Roularta Media Group decided to no longer publish Sport/Voetbalmagazine and Sport/Footmagazine on paper. However, sport remains the most important ‘side issue’ and is given its place in Knack and Le Vif. Online sports coverage will also be expanded on both sites.”
Consequences for personnel
Two sports journalists move to the editorial offices of Knack and Le Vif. An internal solution is being sought for editor-in-chief Bart Aerts.
Three permanent employees lose their jobs and the contracts of a number of freelance employees are terminated. The integration of sports in Knack and Le Vif, but also the further development of the Dutch magazines from the group, has increased the range of football, cycling, but also other sports such as Formula 1 in the digital Mijn Magazine offer, the online magazine kiosk with access to the content of all Roularta Media Group titles.
About Sport/Voetbalmagazine
Sport Magazine first appeared in 1980. The magazine grew over the years from a merger with Sport ’80 and Voetbal Magazine. In January of last year, a monthly rhythm was introduced.
