P.APER GIRLS
Genre

Direction: Stephant Folsom, with Camryn Jones, Riley Lai Nelet, Sofia Rosinsky, Fina Strazza, Adina Porter, Natle Corddry, Ali Wong, Sakai Abenì, Celeste Arias

It was renamed the Stranger Things feminine, but in reality Paper Girls it is something that deviates a lot from the great success of Netflix, to beat paths that go in the direction of other classic 80s and 90s cinema.

The plot of Paper Girls

The series follows four girls delivering newspapers at the dawn of Halloween 1988 (the classic job done by many American teen-agers of the time); suddenly, while chasing a group of older boys who stole the walkie-talkie from one of them (yes, this is a reminder of Stranger Things and the imagery of the period), they find themselves catapulted into the future, precisely in 2019. But even more disturbing is the fact that returning to her home, one of the girls – Erin, of Asian descent – finds herself face to face with herself grown up.

Amazon Prime Video: films and TV series of 2022-2023

Inspired by Brian K. Vaughan’s comic of the same name, the series does not renounce to forays, even explicit, into the science fiction and mysterybut where it convinces most is not in the time travel paraphernalia, but rather in the relations between the four friendsin their training and in the discovery of their limits.

For those who love the imaginary (musical and aesthetic) of the Eighties and teenage friendship stories.
