The color institute Pantone has published its ‘Fashion Color Trend Report’ for the Spring/Summer 2023 edition of New York Fashion Week. The report from the Pantone Color Institute contains the ten most important colors of the season as well as five new classics to expect in designers’ collections.
According to the institute’s experts, the colors for SS23 reflect consumers’ changing relationship to color in recent years. This is expressed in palettes intended to express both “newfound freedom” and “excitement to try something new”.
“The colors for spring/summer 2023 are recalibrated for the new era we are entering,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a statement on Wednesday. “Bringing escapism with reality, wholeness and joy, we explore extreme contrasts in mood and color. This season’s colors are utilitarian and simple, while at the same time an invigorating attitude to life shines through.”
NYFW: The color palette for SS23
For the Pantone color palette, the experts selected a range of high-contrast shades that should encourage experimentation and individual expression. This was evident in a “supercharged” shade called “Fiery Red” contrasted with “Peach Pink”, a warm, nourishing shade. Many of the colors are described with a positive perspective, such as “Empire Yellow,” which is said to exude happiness, or “Classic Green,” a shade Pantone says has health-promoting properties.
SS23 NYFW: New Classics
In contrast to its core color palette, Pantone’s ‘New Classics’ hues are described as “calmly occurring”, with each hue blending seamlessly into the next. This palette includes the watery aqua ‘Skylight’, the lilac gray ‘Gray Lilac’ and the subtle green ‘Leek Green’. In addition, the shades “Vanilla Cream” and “Macchiato” underline the “ultra-calm” ambience that Pantone is trying to achieve.
