The color institute Pantone published a report on the colors of the New York Fashion Week for the fall-winter 22/23 season on Thursday. The report, which is published semi-annually, gives a first glimpse of what colors will be seen at the fashion shows in New York.
According to the Pantone Color Institute, the color palette reflects the hybrid lifestyle that has emerged over the past two years. “The colors for Fall/Winter 2022/2023 reflect our opposing desires for calm and comfort and energetic vitality through a range of calming and restorative colors paired with spirited tones,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
The report for trend colors of the autumn-winter season 22/23 includes ten accent colors and five core colors. While the accent colors create a mood and colorful variety, the core colors form a neutral basis.
Strong accents through contrasts
The contrasting colors range from warm to cooler tones. Lava Falls, a piercing red joins Samoan Sun, a warm yellow, and Orange Tiger – a striking shade of orange. Rose Violet and Nosegay each represent an expressive and a toned down shade of pink. Turquoise was also included in two different shades – Pantone presents a refreshing, light tone with Waterspout and a darker, petrol-colored variant with Midnight. A strong green, called Amazon, complements the blue-green color nuances. Caramel Café, a radiant shade of brown, and Martini Olive, a sandy khaki shade, round out the colorful selection with a touch of neutrality.
Subtle basics
The core colors are made up of classic, seasonless shades that demonstrate versatility and longevity. Shades include Arctic Wolf, a soft white, a nourishing shade of apricot – called Autumn Blonde – and a neutral gray called Chiseled Stone. Two of the colors are darker and fresher: Polar Night, a mysterious blue, and Loden Frost, a calm, regenerating shade of green.
Eiseman sees opportunities for individuality and adapting to moods in the wide range of colors above all: “As we move into an environment full of contradictions, the shades for autumn/winter 2022/2023 allow consumers to flow fluidly between a range of contrasting Moving shades, which allows them to spontaneously express who they are and how they’re feeling on any given day.”
