The promoting agency Mind Over Matter Music has announced that the Pantera concert planned for May 31 in Vienna has been cancelled. In their statement published on Facebook on January 25, they gave no reason for the cancellation. They assured that tickets already purchased can be returned. The concert was part of the Pantera World Tour, which will take place in 2023.
In the comment columns of the site there is lively speculation about the background. Nothing is confirmed, but Pantera are currently hotly debated.
On January 23, the planned concerts at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park were canceled in Germany. The organizers decided to take this step after criticism arose that frontman Phil Anselmo gave the Hitler salute and shouted “White Power” at a concert in 2016. The argument was that he should not be granted a stage. Green politicians from the city of Nuremberg were also significantly involved in the protest. They referred to the Nazi past of the zeppelin field.
The new cancellation was preceded by a demand by the Greens in Vienna against the organizer and the operators of the Plant.tt Bank Austria Halle Gasometer. The municipal council members Viktoria Spielmann and Nikolaus Kunrath referred to Vienna’s Nazi past. “Due to its National Socialist past, Vienna in particular has a special historical responsibility to oppose any form of right-wing extremism. The appearance of ‘Pantera’ is completely incompatible with this responsibility.
