Panda Bear’s Reset is lighthearted and playful but lacks the craziness that characterizes the best work★★★☆☆

Apart from being a member of Animal Collective, we also know Noah Lennox as Panda Bear, under which name he released a number of strong, psychedelic pop albums. Searched for Reset he as Panda Bear the collaboration with the British Peter Kember, better known as Sonic Boom.

Together they sampled many sixties pop fragments, which they integrated into the Panda Bear sound, which again strongly refers to the Beach Boys.

The sample-guessing contest can be done right away in the opening song Gettin’ to the Point already starting with Eddie Cochrans Three Steps To Heaven. It sets the tone for an album that sounds as light-hearted as it is playful. But Reset remains just a bit too much in the sixties, and is too much of a puzzle to really get rid of the impression of having to do with a pastiche.

Have a nice summer and very Beach Boys again those vocals by Lennox, but the madness and the will to escape expectations and which characterize the best Panda Bear work, you miss that here anyway.
