Pakistani ex-Prime Minister Khan shot in leg during protest march: “Attack was planned by current prime minister” | Abroad

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been injured in the lower leg after two gunmen opened fire during a protest march. He is now accusing current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of planning an attack on him. He also believes that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior military official were involved in the plot.

“It’s those three who decided to kill me,” Khan said from his hospital bed in a video posted to his party’s YouTube channel.

The politician was fired in April and has since criticized the government and military in Pakistan on several occasions. Since his ouster, he is still supported by a broad base. His party has already called for protests across the country.

Early elections

Khan’s convoy was attacked as he attempted to march towards the capital Islamabad in protest. In this way he wanted to pressure the government to organize early elections.

He is now demanding the removal of the three suspects. “The protests will continue until our demands are met,” said an aide to Khab.

Police arrested a suspect immediately after the attack. He later confessed that he had shot Khan with the intention of killing him. The shooter allegedly had religious motives. He was angry with Khan for comparing his political struggle to that of the prophet Mohammed.
