For the fifth game in a row, FC Volendam has not won. In their own stadium, number fifteen TOP Oss proved too strong with 2-1. Despite the loss, the Volendam team are still second in the first division.
The match seemed to start well for FC Volendam, but in the fourth minute the home team was suddenly behind. Jearl Margaritha delivered a spinning cross and it went in without a player touching the ball. Joshua Sanches did get in the way of goalkeeper Filip Stankovic.
Great opportunities for TOP Oss
TOP Oss seemed to gain wings from the lead and became dangerous several times in the first half. so shot Stuy van den Herik over and FC Volendam midfielder Walid Ould-Chikh could barely get the ball off the line. On the other side, the same Ould-Chikh shot just wide.
Both FC Volendam and TOP Oss hit the post in the second half. Margaritha did that on behalf of the visitors, after which the ball ended up in the hands of Stankovic with some fortune. Substitute Achraf Douiri was the Volendammer who missed the target by a hair.
Spectacular final phase
It seemed to stay at 0-1, but in stoppage time two more goals were added. Dean Guezen seemed to decide the game by simply sliding the ball in after a cross from the back line: 0-2. Still, things got tense when Martijn Kaars took care of the 1-2 two minutes later. FC Volendam did not come any further.
The gap with leader FC Emmen has now risen to seven points, but FC Volendam will still play against Jong PSV on Monday. Excelsior and FC Eindhoven, the numbers three and four in the ranking, have respectively two and three points less than the eel farmers. Those clubs have also played a duel more than Volendam
