The women VV Alkmaar have done themselves a disservice tonight. A visit to red lantern Excelsior made it 2-1 for the Rotterdam team. Due to the defeat, the North Hollanders drop out of the middle bracket.
Excelsior quickly took the lead. In the seventh minute Sabrine Ellouzi delivered the ball to Britt Udink. The attacker remained cool and put the 1-0 on the scoreboard.
Mark de Vries’s team fought back in the game and tied the score after more than half an hour. Sanne Koopman was the final station after a quick counter: 1-1. The home team missed countless opportunities after the break, but also scored. Danielle Noordermeer scored the winning goal in the 86th minute.
Due to the loss, VV Alkmaar has to look down on the rankings. As number seven in the Eredivisie, the gap with finalist Excelsior (ninth) is only four points. ADO Den Haag, which is sixth, has seven points more than the Alkmaarders.
