Painful defeat FC Volendam against PSV despite a good start

After a good start, FC Volendam failed to pull off a stunt against PSV. After a quick own goal by Jordan Teze, the Eindhoven team won 5-1. Especially in the closing stages of the second half, PSV pressed the gas with three goals within ten minutes.

It seemed in advance to be a match where FC Volendam had to take the abacus. Initially, that scenario could still be thrown in the bin. Volendam took the lead against leader PSV within a minute. A cross from George Cox was deflected by Jordan Teze in such a way that the ball rolled into the goal: 1-0. The lead could not be enjoyed for long.

Ismael Saibari was not tackled well and eventually shot the ball decisively behind Mio Backhaus: 1-1. Zach Booth had another gigantic opportunity to make it 2-1. His bet first went to goalkeeper Walter Benítez, after which the rebound ended up on the post. Hirving Lozano created a shooting opportunity just before half time. However, the Mexican shot just over the goal, allowing FC Volendam to hold on.

The inevitable happened immediately after halftime; a lead for PSV. Jerdy Schouten (former Telstar) was completely free at a corner and hit the ball over Backhaus: 1-2. Luuk de Jong, who indicated Schouten’s goal, was able to decide it all a minute later. However, his shot hit the post. Shortly afterwards, De Jong also had the opportunity to increase his season total. Once again, however, the bet went wide.

PSV accelerated in the last fifteen minutes and Volendam experienced this itself. Through Jordan Teze, Ricardo Pepi and Isaac Babadi, the score went from 1-2 to 1-5 within ten minutes. The abacus scenario could therefore still be revived. Direct competitor Vitesse will be the next opponent next Sunday, kick-off is at 2:30 PM.
