It becomes more and more painful for Ajax. The team from Amsterdam went down hard on a visit to PSV: 3-0. The second place and therefore the preliminary round of the Champions League seems to be a utopia.
Calvin Bassey was -as expected- at the heart of the defense replacing Edson Álvarez. He saw that PSV became dangerous for the first time. Guus Til couldn’t finish a cross from Johan Bakayoko. It turned out to be a warning shot, because within fifteen minutes it was 1-0.
Bakayoko passed Luuk de Jong and trumped Jurriën Timber in the air. Ajax came out well after half an hour. A pass from Jorge Sánchez ended up with Kenneth Taylor. He swung, but his bet was touched.

PSV came out of the dressing room stronger and got a good chance through Joey Veerman from Volenda. Goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli turned the shot. The Argentinian had a negative leading role in the 2-0. He floored Xaxi Simons in the box and Simons then scored the penalty. Subbed Brian Brobbey created a huge opportunity. He shot hard at goalkeeper Walter Benítez.

Taylor had a good opportunity after the restart, but hit the post. It turned out to be worth nothing, as Florian Grillitsch tapped Simons’ cross behind Rulli: 3-0. Due to the defeat in Eindhoven, PSV has three points more than Ajax. The two teams will meet in the cup final next week. The following week, Ajax plays against AZ at home.
