Paderborn boss defends Max Kruse: “We need that”

The intensive social media activities of newcomer Max Kruse are not a problem for the club from the point of view of Paderborn’s sports director Benjamin Weber.

“Everyone has to know that for themselves. I think it’s normal these days to share a lot on social media and to be a little transparent,” Weber told the Internet portals “Spox” and “Goal”.

Second division soccer club SC Paderborn caused a stir with the commitment of the 35-year-old former German international Kruse.

Kruse is very active on social networks and has repeatedly made headlines off the pitch during his career.

He made money at poker tournaments and proposed to his girlfriend in front of cameras at the Olympics. “When we sign players, we make our own picture and don’t adopt what others may have already drawn,” said Weber.

From his point of view, it is crucial “how much desire and hunger a potential newcomer has”. The age and the appearance outside the square are then irrelevant.

“Max wants to prove something here, his own drive is absolutely right – and that’s exactly what we need.” He immediately had the feeling that the offensive player “absolutely” wanted to come to Paderborn. “It was quite clear that Max saw the sport and the challenge in us. That was important to us, but also important to him.”
